Entry Formalities for Indian Tourist

For entry into Bhutan by Air

Route permit is required for visiting Bhutan. If you are travelling by Air, you will be granted a permit at the Paro Airport for visiting Paro and Thimphu only. In case you are travelling to other parts of the country, extension permits will be required in order to travel there.

For entry into Bhutan by Road

Route permit is required for visiting Bhutan. If you are travelling by road, your permits will be based on the particular border entry point (Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar).

Passport validity should be more than 6 months. Permit will be issued on arrival from the entry points. Family traveling with kids who are below 17 years, without valid passport/voter ID can be allowed to enter Bhutan in Birth Certificates and valid school ID (both should be presented in case of school going kid). Indian wishing to enter Bhutan from third country should produced valid Indian Passport, voter card is not valid. 02 recent passport size photographs for each guest.

Special Permit

If you plan to visit places beyond Thimphu and Paro, you will also need an extension route permit to go to protected places such as Haa, Punakha, Wangdue, Phobjikha, Trongsha, Bumthang.

Permits are free of cost and are processed against valid Passport or Voters ID for adults.

Documents not valid for traveling to Bhutan as Indian

Persons having PAN Card, Aadhar Card, PIO card, OCI card, driving license, special documents issued by government of India are not valid for Indians visiting Bhutan.
